What Does Sew What? Have to Offer Macro Photographers?
Sew What? is a lightweight, UV-resistant outdoor netting that is designed to be used in tandem with macro photography equipment. The net is made from high-quality materials and features a specially designed opening for macro lenses. The mesh size of the net is adjustable, allowing photographers to customize the field of view and reduce the risk of pests getting too close when shooting.
One of the major benefits of Sew What? is that it helps to protect expensive macro equipment from dirt, debris, and other outdoor elements. This keeps the equipment clean and dry while significantly reducing the chance of water damage and rust. Sew What? is also durable enough to maintain its shape, even when repeatedly folded and stored away in a bag.
In addition to protecting equipment, Sew What? also helps to prevent distractions due to mosquitoes and other pests. Changing settings and moving equipment can become time-consuming when insects are present, often leading to missed shots and other disruptions. Sew What? essentially creates a barrier that helps to keep insects away while shooting.
Since Sew What? is a DIY insect net, setup is quite easy. It takes only a few minutes to assemble the net and attach it to the camera. Sew What? A DIY insect net for macro photographers
It is hard to imagine a more convoluted and impractical DIY sewing project than this one. But as with everything else that happened in the week it took to make this video, I blame the virus. Not sure if was THE virus, but I was taken out of play for most of the week by whichever one took over my insides. But here it is anyway. Maybe not a very helpful tutorial, but should be fun, watching me struggle.
The insect pin holder I mention in the video consists of the following parts:

To cut your own net material, first create a cutting guide using a large sheet of paper or card. From any point on the paper, draw two arcs, using a string compass – one should be drawn with a radius of 20.5″, the other with a radius of 0.5″. Draw a line from your center point out through both arcs. Then using a protractor, measure 75 degrees from the first line, and draw an additional line, through both arcs, at that angle. That’s it. Cut it out and use it to cut your netting to size.
